It helps baby too. We find that babies born using HypnoBirthing® tend to be calmer, feed better, sleep better and experience less trauma, because they are gently and calmly breathed into the world at their own pace.
Scientific research has also shown that the babies usually have higher Agpar scores as well (a measure of how well your baby is doing immediately after the birth, and then five minutes later).

“The Gold Standard of Birthing with Hypnosis”
“When you learn about the way fear makes you tense up, it makes a lot of sense. Why should it hurt?” “Evan’s birth was a lot easier than my first baby, Lana. There wasn’t so much pushing. The bonus is, I can remember so much of it. I was more aware of what was happening.”

PROFESSIONAL REACTIONS
"I would have to say that HypnoBirthing® is the most amazing phenomenon to observe in action. Women seem to sail through the birthing of their babies, working as a team with their birth partner who is the essential anchor for her. There is nothing for the midwife to do except sit quietly and watch and wait. The entire experience seems to bring the couple closer together as they share in the achievement and benefit from the enhanced trust in one another that they have developed. I also think from an educational point of view couples seem to really take on board the physiological process and how a positive environment is essential to a normal outcome. And finally, I think the real success story for HypnoBirthing® is it's benefit to men. Men have the hardest job really, being supportive to their partners but not really having a defined role. Men's role as HypnoBirthing® partners is clearly key to the whole success story and being actively involved in the birth of their children allows men to bond easily and immediately with them”.

HOW DOES HYPNOSIS HELP CHILDBIRTH?
Hypnosis is a natural state of relaxed concentration - a state of mind in which you are fully aware but learn to tune out any negative thoughts and distractions so that you can communicate more useful suggestions to the subconscious - the part of the mind that influences what you think, how you feel, and the choices you make. It can actually help to control pain. There is no magic to achieving success with self-hypnosis. Almost anyone who chooses to can reach deep relaxation and redirected focus.
When having your baby with HypnoBirthing®, what you will experience is similar to daydreaming or the feeling of “losing yourself" when reading a book or staring at a fire. You will be totally relaxed, but fully aware and in control. You will be aware of your body’s contractions but will be able to decide the extent to which you feel the surge. You will experience your baby’s birth in an atmosphere of calm and relaxation, without the fear and tension that cause pain. Your body’s natural anaesthesia (endorphins) will replace the stress hormones that create pain. You will be fully awake and involved throughout.
